A friend recently fulfilled a lifelong ambition (well, one of them I’m sure!) to roast a pig on a spit. The pig was cooking all day and I’m glad to say I’m still around after tucking in. It was oh so good but I’d never have the patience to actually go to the bother of this.

There were two dalmatians down on Youghal Beach a few weeks back enjoying the fresh air and chasing sticks. No recession worries for them; it’s a dog’s life!

We were down in Youghal a few weekends ago enjoying the final warmth that could be squeezed out of Autumn on a fine sunny Sunday when I spotted this bird perched up high.

A final shot from Fota before I take a break and move onto non-animal photos for a while. I think this is the same white-handed gibbon who was hanging around earlier on this week.

Who’ll Take The Lion-Tailed Macaque to France?

This lion-tailed macaque at Fota Wildlife Park sat on his perch for quite some time munching away on an orange. According to info on the Fota site, there were only 2500 of them left in the wild in 2006, half the number present in 1998. Wikipedia stomps in with some interesting facts including that it gets its name from the German for Beard Ape. That could be complete nonsense but it sounds plausible to me.

Of course he’s not actually going to France, for any non-Irish people passing through here there was an ad on Irish tv about taking a horse to France to somehow advertise Kerrygold butter. Boards.ie have a discussion on how annoying that ad was here.

A lemur is fed at Fota Wildlife Park recently. It looks like the same type of lemur as the other day but I could be mistaken.

A ring-tailed lemur leaps from above close to his (or her) unsuspecting buddies at Fota Wildlife Park. These little fellas were very entertaining to watch as they leapt around this tree. In the wild they can only be found in Madagascar now as there are no monkeys there which would provide too much competition. More info in the Fota site about ring-tailed lemurs.

An oryx yawns at Fota Wildlife Park. Apparently there are only 1500 of these fellas left in the world, but he (or she?) doesn’t seem too bothered.
