As I mentioned on the previous photo of the unique Shaky Bridge, it is a must for everybody in Cork with a camera. With this shot I tried to get a different view of the bridge on a fantastic sunny September afternoon.

Swimming in the Lee

In recent years the traditional Lee Swim has been re-instated. I was almost convinced to do it this year but didn’t do so in the end. I might do it next year though, which seems an awful long way off at the moment… Above, one of the competitors swims under the quite recently built Cornmarket Street Bridge while spectators enjoy the sunshine. Sometimes, just watching an event can be enough!

Taken from Christy Ring Bridge looking back down towards R&H Hall. I’ll be calling down there this morning as there are massive balloons up on these buildings as part of the Culture Night which happened last night.

Here’s To The Real Capital

Good to see Budweiser have their heads screwed on properly and know where the real capital of Ireland is. Although, cynical old me reckons there’s a similarily ingratiating ad in most cities of the world.

Cork City Marathon Is Coming Up!

The Cork City Marathon is coming up again soon after an impressive debut last year. Advertising is already up on Brian Boru Bridge and you can also see Michael Collins Bridge in the background.

I partook in that race but only as part of a relay team in a very small section! I hope to do a longer section this year seeing as I’m entered in the Schull Triathlon a week later – this would be a good warm up event.

Getting Lost in Skibbereen

Having missed our turn-off to our holiday home this weekend, we stopped on the far side of Skibbereen to turn around and try again but not before stopping for a few minutes to take a few photos. There’s something about old stone bridges such as this one going over River Ilen that always cries out to be photographed.

A bus passes as I take a shot of flowers with Cork City Hall in the background. Notice how the Elysian isn’t towering over the city hall as this was taken in September 2006. I’m beginning to wonder how much thought went into granting planning permission for the Elysian!
