The Living Tradition is no more

The Living Tradition on McCurtain Street recently closed its doors for the last time.  This is an awful loss for traditional music enthusiasts in Cork as it had a great collection of tradition music CDs, books and even some instruments.  The shop had moved from another premises on the same street in recent years but obviously they couldn’t sustain the shop on an ongoing basis.  I’ll miss the place.  I think I was one of the last to make a purchase there late on a Saturday evening, buying the excellent album by Cork band Fred Can’t Stop I’m Being Timed.

Match fixture list on a notice board outside a pub on McCurtain Street.   You could spend half your life watching sport on telly these days!

Tigh Filí

Tigh Filí, or The Poet’s House in English, on McCurtain Street - I like the use of the old Irish script where a dot over the g signifies a gh. I’m not sure if this is still where they’re based as their website says they’re at the new Cork Arts Theatre. Well worth checking out from the website info.
