Gael-Taca had a stand at the Lord Mayor’s Picnic this summer at which the multi-talentend Ó Donnabháin sisters were playing along with another guy on tin whistle.

The Kilkenny shop across from the Opera House in Emmet Place. This is a recent addition to Cork, Kilkenny people feeling the need to benefit from the prosperity in Cork.

Bus Lána

A new bus lane has appeared on St Patrick’s Quay recently enough. Apparently some drivers coming in the opposite direction still brave it and try and get past all the traffic by driving down this lane. I’d say the bus would win.

I like old signs which have the old Irish script in them still. This shot was taken on Coburg Street in Cork City centre and is just across the road from a few nice pubs.

Live Music at Sin É and The Corner House

Two great pubs for trad music side by side on Coburg Street, Sin É and The Corner House. Both are great for live music if you’re around that neck of the woods.

Tigh Filí, or The Poet’s House in English, on McCurtain Street – I like the use of the old Irish script where a dot over the g signifies a gh. I’m not sure if this is still where they’re based as their website says they’re at the new Cork Arts Theatre. Well worth checking out from the website info.

Take away coffee in the English Market and it’s nice to see a cúpla focal being used so prominently. The coffee ain’t half bad either!

I like the old Irish script where a dot over the letter denotes a séimhiú or h in the word. This shop in Skibbereen had that but also a plaque commemorating Diarmaid Ó Donnabháin Rossa who founded the Phoenix National and Literary Society.

Shandon Tower

One of Cork’s more famous landmarks, Shandon Tower which is located up in the Northside of the city and visible from a lot of the city. If you ever take a trip there you can play the bells. I’m sure the neighbours don’t mind!

The full name of the church is Church of St Anne Shandon on Church Street (seriously!). Lots more interesting info on ShandonBells.org.
