A new bus lane has appeared on St Patrick’s Quay recently enough. Apparently some drivers coming in the opposite direction still brave it and try and get past all the traffic by driving down this lane. I’d say the bus would win.

I like old signs which have the old Irish script in them still.  This shot was taken on Coburg Street in Cork City centre and is just across the road from a few nice pubs.

They like their Beamish at Sin É on Coburg Street going by the amount of signs for it.

The view up Patrick’s Hill. Imagine cycling up that like the crazies do every now and again in the name of sport!  It is also where Guinness shot that Christmas ad where a young couple are having a snow-fight.  They had to close it off for a day and cover the place with fake snow.

I’m not sure what that is in the background but it looks like the same shape as a church window.

Out of Afrika shop on Pine Street which, like a nearby shop, also looks terminal.

This shop always looks like it should be in the 1950s! I’m not sure if it’s still open but the Golden Pages has it categorised as a newsagents still.

Two great pubs for trad music side by side on Coburg Street, Sin É and The Corner House. Both are great for live music if you’re around that neck of the woods.

The Living Tradition on McCurtain Street recently closed its doors for the last time.  This is an awful loss for traditional music enthusiasts in Cork as it had a great collection of tradition music CDs, books and even some instruments.  The shop had moved from another premises on the same street in recent years but obviously they couldn’t sustain the shop on an ongoing basis.  I’ll miss the place.  I think I was one of the last to make a purchase there late on a Saturday evening, buying the excellent album by Cork band Fred Can’t Stop I’m Being Timed.
